Generally speaking, planning rules determine whether you can go ahead with a building project and building regulations set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health for people in or about those buildings.

You can apply for planning permission online using the Planning Portal, visit www.planningportal.co.uk/apply. Once you have registered you will be able to create, attach documents and pay for your application before submitting to the Local Planning Authority.
