Temporary changes to DBS ID checking guidelines due to COVID-19

Thursday 26 March 2020

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 organisations have been struggling to follow the ID checking guidance and therefore temporary changes have been made to the guidelines.

When validating ID documents, the ID checker must be in physical possession of the documents. DBS understands that this is causing difficulties as the public are being advised to work from home where possible. In some cases, this may prevent applications from being submitted.

DBS has made the following temporary changes to ensure that necessary checks can be carried out. These changes came into place 24/03/2020.

Please note, these changes should only be implemented in cases whereby it is not possible to follow the normal ID checking guidelines.

  • ID documents can be viewed over a video link
  • Scanned images can be used in advance of the DBS check being submitted.
