The Planning Portal Conference 2019
News
Friday 22 November 2019

This conference took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, the NEC on the 14th and 15th November 2019.

The Planning Portal has been transforming planning and building for nearly 20 years, working in partnership with central and local government and the private sector. The CPD Accredited, annual event enabled senior level delegates from across the private sector and local and national government to come together. They were able to share their challenges, hear from industry experts and understand what affects planning and construction.

There were many topics discussed, including the Building and Safety Programme, which was established to ensure the safety of residents in high-rise buildings. The LABCs Director of Regulatory Policy, Martin Taylor shared key information on the development of the programme and what this means for planners, architects and local authorities. This was followed by a panel discussion with Martin Taylor, Angus Law, Adrian Dobson and Paul Timmins to discuss what the Building Safety Programme will mean for planning.

Another topic which was discussed was the Future of Planning. Lord Matthew Taylor of Goss Moor was the first keynote speaker of the day. Everyone enjoyed listening to his insights on the future of planning, planning data, opportunities and housing. Andrew Carter, Chief Executive of Centre for Cities discussed cities, the economy and planning. Where have we been? Where are we going?

"And only 6 UK cities are more productive than the European city average."

There were many other brilliant speakers and discussions, and we thank them all for taking the time out of their busy schedules to share their intelligence and insights into all these important issues regarding planning and building.

We were very pleased to be sponsoring this event, as it was an excellent chance to network, give advice, listen, and learn about current issues and interests in planning. We were also able to promote our ReQuestaPlan service.
